Local Authority MTR
If you have a mortgage through your local authority and you are engaging your local authority Arrears Support Unit regarding your mortgage arrears difficulties you should discuss the possibility of availing of the MTR scheme with them.
If you are eligible for the scheme the ownership of your home will transfer to your local authority and you will become a tenant of the local authority. You will pay a rent which is affordable as it is based on your income.
Some of the maintenance on the property will be responsibility of the local authority in line with the terms of your tenancy agreement.
To qualify for the Mortgage to Rent Scheme, the mortgage, property and household must meet the criteria that has been set for the scheme (see Do I Qualify for MTR).
To find out more about the Scheme and to determine whether you are eligible to avail of the Scheme you should contact the Arrears Support Unit in your local authority.
